At Solidarity Kitchen NL, we are committed to upholding human rights, democratic values, and the protection of both people and animals in need. We believe that justice, dignity, and freedom are fundamental rights for all individuals, regardless of their nationality, ethnicity, or political affiliation. In light of recent events, we feel compelled to express our deep concern regarding grave violations of these principles as these principles are at the core of our mission.
We are a small organization charity with no political ties to any party or state.
However, we believe that standing for human rights and justice is a responsibility that transcends political boundaries. Our focus remains on providing direct aid to disaster affected people while standing firmly for human rights, democracy, and the welfare of both people and all living beings in need. Furthermore, we believe that we should express our views and our voice on justice, human rights, and democracy, as these principles are at the core of our mission.
As people from Türkiye, we stand in solidarity with those affected by the suffering in our region. We recognize the violence and loss of life in other parts of the world, and we strongly condemn all forms of violence against civilians. While our primary focus is on the crisis in our own region, we remain deeply concerned about all human suffering and call for peace and justice everywhere.
Türkiye: The Imprisonment of the Mayor of Istanbul
We are alarmed by the arrest and imprisonment of the Mayor of Istanbul, a development that undermines democracy and the will of the people of Istanbul. Since the last local election on 31 March 2024, 13 elected mayors across Turkey, from two opposition parties, were removed from office.The use of judicial measures to suppress political opposition and silence elected officials threatens the foundations of democratic governance. We call for due process, respect for political plurality, and the immediate release of political detainees.
Genocide Against Palestine and Israeli Attacks on Lebanon and Syria
We strongly condemn the ongoing genocide committed against the Palestinian people by Israel. The indiscriminate killing of more than 50.000 civilians, forced displacement, and destruction of homes and essential infrastructure constitute grave violations of international law and human rights. We call for an immediate cessation of hostilities, an end to the siege on Gaza, and urgent humanitarian aid for those affected.
Additionally, we are deeply concerned about Israel’s military actions against Lebanon and Syria, which have resulted in civilian casualties and widespread suffering. We urge the international community to take decisive action to prevent further escalation, hold those responsible accountable, and work toward a just and lasting peace in the region.
Human Rights Violations by Armed Groups in Syria
The ongoing conflict in Syria continues to exact a heavy toll on civilians. Armed groups have committed human rights violations, including abductions, torture, and killings. These actions not only violate international law but also perpetuate suffering and instability in the region. We call for accountability, protection of civilians, and increased humanitarian assistance for those in dire need.

We urge the international community, civil society organizations, and concerned individuals to advocate for human rights, demand justice, and support humanitarian relief efforts. Only through collective action can we hope to achieve a world where dignity, freedom, and peace prevail.
